警察是否可以協助尋人？尋找對象為失聯30年的好友

在網路上搜尋相關資訊，發現有人說警察可以協助尋人，也有人說不行，
到底警察可不可以協助尋人呢？
或是在某種狀況下(例如和尋找對象有親戚關係)才能協助尋找之類的？

因為已經30年沒聯絡，
這邊的資訊只有姓名、出生年次、兩種可能的身份證字號開頭及30多年前曾經任職過的公司名稱，
若警察可以協助尋找，這些資訊有辦法可以找到人嗎？
如果能找到，是會提供什麼樣的資訊讓我們去跟對象聯絡呢？
