LG Display will reportedly begin production of 49-inch Ultra HD TV panels at the beginning of 2014, according to industry sources.
The panels will be produced on one of LG's 8.5G fabs in addition to producing other 49-inch TV panels. LG is already in discussions with customers and expects to ship the Ultra HD panels at the beginning of 2014, the sources said.
LG also has plans to mass produce 55-, 65- and 84-inch Ultra HD TV panels by the end of the third quarter, the sources added. The panels will be aimed at first-tier vendors for use in high-end TVs.
The sources added that the 84-inch units are expected to see limited monthly shipments at around 3,000-5,000 units, while shipments of LG's 55- and 65-inch Ultra HD TV panels are expected to reach a combined 10,000 units a month in 2013.
