壽豐原為泰耶魯族（泰雅族之一支）聚居的地方，舊名為「里鬧」，係泰耶族語「叢林」意思；後來漸為阿美族狩獵的地區，因位於鯉魚潭之南，故又叫做「鯉魚尾」。民國六年時，本地疫癘肆虐，居民畏懼，便改名「壽村」以圖吉利，後日人改稱「壽庄」；復後，政府因此地物產豐饒，便以豐字相連，乃有「壽豐」之名。
